Theater=Literacy + Life Skills

Reading & Comprehension ? Grammar, Speech & Articulation ? Coordination ? Teamwork The performing arts are known in the educational community as a great conduit for higher learning. Through physical acting exercises, character analysis, play-reading, writing, and rehearsal, students can increase their literacy skills, discuss conflicts, think critically and make positive choices. Additionally, theater allows youth to reflect and celebrate universal human experiences. Youth can explore current issues within their community and gain an understanding of history within a cultural context through folklore, legends, and myths. In the end, students can use drama to build social skills in group activities; interpersonal relationships are built and ideas are shared. A boost of self-esteem is inevitable as everyone focuses and completes a common goal where everyone benefits from great teamwork and leadership from professional arts educators

Theater Workshops

Theater workshops are custom-designed for students with minimal exposure to the theater. Students are introduced to the particular vocabulary and active components of an area of the theater and will participate in a performance activity. Workshops can vary from a single, comprehensive three-hour class to a four-day workshop series and is a great way to introduce a class to an arts field and assess their interest before implementing a long-term residency. One-Day Workshops (Pre-K, 60 minutes. Ages 7 & up, 90 minutes)

Acting I: Warm-up exercises (physical & vocal), theater games, blocking, acting exercises, monologues
Acting II: Warm-up exercises, acting exercises, character explorations, dialogues, script-reading
Creative Movement: Warm-up exercises, body language review, stories through movement

Theater Residencies (8, 10, 12, 14 weeks)

Theater residencies give youth a comprehensive theater experience and focuses on theater vocabulary and teaching acting or play-writing skills. Residencies can be an extension of the workshops or customized by the needs of a specific curriculum or theme. Residencies provide students the opportunity to build patience and understand process. Students become accountable to themselves and to others as they participate in a final event with an audience that can be composed of parents, another class, or an in-school event.
